Relay For Life 2010

This year's relay will always hold a place in my heart.

I had been emotional all day long just thinking about how I would feel when I saw my mom walk the SURVIVOR lap! I have said it before and I am sure I will say it again many times in my life the word cancer turns your life upside down, sideways, backwards and any other way your life can twist and turn. Words really can't express how I felt when I saw my mom and dad walking hand in hand around the track. Tears of JOY fell down my face, a prideful smile hung from ear to ear, & my heart felt like it was going to bounce right out of my chest.

As, we all supported a wonderful cause I felt honored that I come from such a wonderful family and have amazing friends that loved on us through this hard time. It meant more than words can say that friends came, called and cared enough about us to check in on us and see what they could do for us.

While I stood there tonight it amazed me how people who don’t even know my mom were also proud of her. I love how our family came together and loved each other, supported each other and leaned on each other. Isn’t it strange how when things get hard that is when you really see who you can depend on?

Relay was amazing! I cannot even begin to tell you how many people where there because the football field was packed full. Luminary’s surrounded the field of those in memory we have lost to cancer and those we want to honor for the battle they fought and won with cancer. In Henry County alone over $300,000.00 was raised to find a cure for cancer. How amazing is that!!!!

I will always remember this night as long as I live. I pray that one day a cure is found and no other families have to receive and live through this awful disease.

Happy Birthday to ME :)

Ok, so if you know me really well oh, what the heck am I saying if you hardly know me at all you know I LOVE my birthday. I am not one to brag or tell my birthday is coming up but, all in all I love the one day of the year that is all about me!! I think the reason I like my birthday so much is because my parents, especially my mom has always made it special. This year I was really excited about it for a few reasons. #1, I got the best gift ever...the news that my mom is cancer free!!! #2, I was more than excited about my day of pampering coming to me. Then last and the craziest reason EVER but, I love getting on facebook and seeing all the notifications telling me happy birthday. I know, how cheesy is that but, I love it. It makes me feel so loved :) Ok, so apparently it don't take much to make me happy...

Anyway, I had a great day and look forward to see what year # 32 has in store for me!

Here's to a great year!!

This week is off to a GREAT start!

What an amazing God we serve! Mom is cancer FREE!!!!

Mom's c-scans came back great & Dr. Hines said he couldn't be more proud of her. I think we all could say we couldn't be more proud of her.

She will stay under Dr. Hines care forever and will visit him every few months. He spoke with mom & dad about signs to look for and told mom to take it easy. It will take her up to a year to get all her energy back.

I think the sweetest words we have heard in a long time came to us today! Mom's lap as a survivor next week at relay for life will definitely be a very proud (& tear jearking) moment for all of us.

I think I speak for our whole family when I say how proud we are of her. She battled the hardest thing over the past months and came out like a champ. I can honestly say we have a TRUE HERO living among us and one that we all love more than anything.

Way to go MOM!! You have given us all the best gift ever..YOU!!

To all of our family & friends we love you all so much! You have been the best of the best through the past few months. I don't think we could ever repay you all for all the love, thoughts and prayers you have sent to us. We are truly blessed with an amazing family & wonderful friends. May God bless each one of you.

I couldn't end this blog without thanking our Lord and Savor. It is because of him that we made it through the past months. He has held us in his arms, gave us comfort when we needed it most, and a shoulder to cry on in the darkest of nights. Through our faith and prayer he heard our prayers and turned them into a praise. Our God is still in the healing business and we have a wife, mom, and maw-maw to prove this!!!!

Ride for Reid

Reid is the son of one my best & favorite friends ever. Mandy & I went to high school together & have stayed friends ever since. Reid was born this past October and was completely diagnosed with CF this past January. Mandy & Michael have put their heart and souls into raising money and finding a cure for CF. Today, a very awesome event was held in honor of Reid. Ride for Reid was amazing!! The people that came out to support Reid were there to give with their hearts. I am sure one day we will see a cure for CF but, until then we will work and raise money to find that cure!

The Rodger Family!

Brodie's Birthday Party!!

Wow, today was a very busy day for me & showed me exactly how old I might be!! After, getting back from my trip to the woods I took a shower...one I say might have been the best one of my life, & got ready to head out to my little cousin's birthday party. Let me remind you all I was going on about an hour's worth of sleep and what sleep I got was in a sleeping bag outside. When my mom, my sister & my great-niece Alivia got to the party I knew we were in for it. Brodie's party was at Flip-Flops which is the home to 4 blow up inflatable jumpers. Alivia's eye's got so big when she saw all of them and couldn't wait to go full speed ahead on them. Lisa & I didn't know this would be a exercise course for us. Alivia is not exactly at the point where she could do some of them by herself so, this meant we helped. I definitely got my cardio out of the way that day. It was truly a fun place! The owners & workers were amazing and all the kiddo's had a great time...I think the adults did too!!!!

Happy Birthday Brodie! We enjoyed your party from the start to the end!!!!

Roughing It!!

Well, this weekend was the BIG camping weekend & I survived!! I am sure many of you who follow my blog couldn't wait for this update. I also think I had MANY friends praying that I would survive and make it back all in one piece.

We left Friday and made good timing getting up to the campsite. We did have a little surprise when we got there and realized all the tenting camping spots were taken and we would have to sleep in the squirrel's Nest.

We had a great time around the fire cooking our dinner and smore's (yummy). When, we got back to our "nest" and realized um, I had no sleeping bag it got funny and interesting all at the same time. I would like to thank Brian for offering to give up his sleeping bag and thank Ashley for letting me snuggle with her in her sleeping bag. THANKS GUYS!! I would say besides the COLD the hardest part of camping was waking up around 5 to realize I need to go to the bathroom and knowing it was NOT just a few steps away. Thank goodness Ashley & Brittany had the call of nature at the same time. When we got to the bathhouse we realized it was heated and enjoyed our hour long stay in there until we gave in and went back to our nest. I owe another thanks to Brian for waking up at the break of dawn and covering me up with his sleeping bag (the boy knew I was freezing all night) and having a nice warm fire going when we got up...you rock Brian!! Breakfast was very yummy :) We enjoyed some more time at the campfire and then packed everything up(this is when we found my sleeping bag still in back of Sarah's car)and headed to the nearest Starbucks. You know how "city" you are when you are all on your crackberry's finding the nearest Starbucks so we could all get our addiction on. After, our stop by Starbucks...oh, which I must say we had to drive for about hour before we got to one (I guess mountain folk don't like our fancy Starbucks, ha, ha). We then headed to home sweet home.

It was a quick little get away but, we had a great time. I was pretty dang impressed with myself for roughing it for one night. I honestly don't think I have laughed as hard as I did this weekend in months. I can say I would do it again but, I think, no I know I would prefer a tent!

BUT, I was very happy to see this again when I got home!!

Happy trails to ya'll

Memories & Ducks

I know you are thinking what a strange title for this blog. Today, my niece, myself and the kids took a little field trip to well, a graveyard. I know that sounds strange but, we had a good reason behind it plus, their was ducks there!

When I was a senior in high school (95-96) my sister & my nieces lost their husband & daddy. Nicole, my sister's youngest daughter called me the other day and asked if I would take her to her dad's grave while she was on Spring break from high school. Today, we loaded up the kid's (who feel in love with Nicole) and took our field trip.

My grandmother had fixed some flowers for Cole to put on Randy's grave. It was bitter sweet to see Cole at her daddy's grave. Cole, was 3 years old when she lost her dad but, to be so young when it happen she remembers so much about him. The whole way out there I was so afraid I would cry when we got there and I have to admit I was doing good until Cole, started with tearing up.

I know without a doubt that Randy is looking down on his 3 daughters & is so proud of each one of them. All three of them, Andrea, Holliann and Nicole have grown into lovely ladies. Not to mention he know has one cute litte grand-daughter.

After, we paid our respect to Randy we headed over to the pond to feed the ducks. Ty, was so excited that he could hardly contain himself! I think if I would have let him get in the pond with the ducks he would have ran full speed ahead. Mary, on the other hand was quite shy of the ducks at first but, once she realized they were scared of us she was happy to feed them.

The sweet kiddo's and Cole with the ducks:

Even with the tears we had a wonderful day.

The Choo-Choo Park

The kiddo's and I headed out the Hertiage park, in McDonough today. I love this park because, it is so large and has so many things for the kids to do. We call it the Choo-Choo park because, it has a old train on the land & the kids can get up in it and act like they are conducting it. This park is also the park with the memorial that I have posted about in the past.

Today, we met up with a great friend of mine, Shannon, and her two girls. We had a cute picnic lunch and then let the kids play until their hearts were content (really until nap time was coming up). All four kids had a blast! I love watching the kids play with other kids and how they will play for hours with someone they just met.

Here are some of the pictures I got during playtime!

I really think Ty could run for hours on end!

Mary LOVES slides :)

Here is Shannon's little girls, Jaiden & Giuliana with a friend

Isn't this a cute picture!

The girl's loved helping Mary all around the playground

The girls found a hiding place in the shade :)

I am so EXCITED Spring is here! I think the kid's and I will be seeing the outside a lot now days :)

He has RISEN!!!!

After Jesus was crucified, Joseph of Arimathea had Christ's body placed in his own tomb. A large stone covered the entrance and soldiers guarded the sealed tomb. On the third day, a Sunday, several women (Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, Joanna and Salome are all mentioned in the gospel accounts) went to the tomb at dawn to anoint the body of Jesus.

A violent earthquake took place as an angel from heaven rolled back the stone. The guards shook in fear as the angel, dressed in bright white, sat upon the stone. The angel announced to the women that Jesus who was crucified was no longer in the tomb, "He is risen, just as he said."

I do hope that each one of you had a wonderful Easter with your family but, my prayer is that you know why we celebrate Easter. What greater gift can someone give you than their own life. Our Lord and Savior died for each one of us but, rose 3 days later!! He is ALIVE & it is by his grace that we to live also.

I had a wonderful Easter Sunday! I started my day with our Lord in church sharing his wonderful Story to some amazing kids in Sunday school. Then I went to worship him with love and praise in the adult service. After, a wonderful morning at church I ate lunch with my family at my aunt and uncle's house. We had such a yummy lunch and some wonderful company! I was excited not to only have my family with me but, my friend Kara and her husband Aaron. Aaron, just return this past Friday (Good Friday) from Afghanistan where he has been for the past year. It felt so good to sit and share a meal with someone who has also made a sacrifice for my life. We are so happy to have Aaron home safely. THANK YOU Aaron for all you have done for us!!

After, lunch we headed over to my sister's house for a egg hunt with Alivia (my great niece) and dinner. We had such a great time watching Alivia hunt for the eggs and how excited she would get when she found one. Lots of laughs, picture taking and love filled my Easter day.

Thank you Lord for all you have given me & the sacrifice you made for me.

XOXO,

Simple Prayers

Lord, I thank you for your beloved Son, for your unfailing love, and for Your wonderful thoughts. During my busy day, help me to remember all that You have done for me. Help me to follow Your Word and walk in purity of heart.
